Telehealth - Therapy Online
In need of therapy services but would prefer to stay at home? Ladner Village Physiotherapy now provides services online through tele-rehabilitation, also known as telehealth.
What can be treated online?
In short, almost anything! We are able to provide physiotherapy services for orthopaedic physiotherapy, pelvic floor physiotherapy and vestibular rehabilitation. We also offer counselling exclusively online.
For physiotherapy, here’s what we can do for you:
identify the problem you are experiencing by listening to your story, watching you move and asking you to perform the same tests we would do in the clinic
lead you through appropriate treatment options such as self-mobilizations and soft tissue techniques
help you create an exercise routine to do inside your home - strengthening, stretching and joint mobilization exercises, just to name a few
discuss pain management strategies
assess your home work/study set-ups, and view any activities that you may be struggling with (unloading the dishwasher, reaching for a high shelf, etc)
How does it work?
All you need for your telehealth visit is a Jane account, the same scheduling system we use to book all our appointments. Shortly before your appointment, you will receive an email with a link that will take you to your online appointment. Click that link, follow the prompts and away we go!
For more information, see Jane’s guide on How To Join Your Online Appointment.
After you book your appointment, a confirmation of your appointment time and a few intake forms will be emailed to you. Please ensure your forms are filled out well before your appointment time so your physiotherapist can be well prepared for your appointment.
What are the equipment requirements to get started?
All you need is your smart phone, tablet or computer with a webcam. If you are joining us through a computer or android device, Chrome is the recommended browser. If you are joining us through your iPhone or iPad, you’ll need to download the Jane Online Appointments app.
Your internet speed will also need to be at least 15Mbps or higher - check out your speed at speedtest.net.
Is the interface secure and PIPEDA & HIPAA compliant?
Yes! The Online Appointments feature was built exclusively within Jane and it is all provided within their secure infrastructure that meets Canada’s privacy standards.
Janes uses a standard that provides peer-to-peer audiovisual communication in most cases. This means that all the traffic flows directly between each user’s web browser and completely bypasses our servers. The traffic is also encrypted in transit and none of the data is stored anywhere at any time.
This approach ensures Jane’s online appointments are PIPEDA and HIPAA compliant and address the major privacy concerns clinics and patients have around telehealth.
How do I pay for telehealth services?
All telehealth appointments require a credit card on file before your appointment starts. This can be done through your online profile. Your credit card will not be charged until the time of your appointment.
Can I use my extended health insurance?
Yes! Most insurance carriers - including Manulife, Canada Life, Sun Life and Pacific Blue Cross are now accepting telehealth visits. Some policies do not cover telehealth services for physiotherapy; for this reason, we do not direct bill for telehealth appointments.
